Advanced Studio Intensive

Advanced 2D artists will focus on series development, goal setting, scholarship as a path to living the artist’s life, and support and training in technical issues. Much time will be spent in painting with individual planning, discussions on readings and critique as a component of the Intensive. Readings will be available before the intensive begins to allow time for study. Small class size. Preregistration with tuition in full required to reserve your place in class.

Color Mixing with Fleta

Make your own color wheel with 6 pigments (reds, yellows and blues) to be used for reference in studying color mixing basics and color theory. Required for Color Mixing Basics. A material list will be provided. Add $10 to tuition if using class acrylic paints.

Color Mixing Basics
Wed Sept 29th from 10:00 – 3:00, Tuition $75.00, add $10 to use class paints and supplies
This is a must have class for beginners and artists needing a practice and up to date information about pigments. Bring the color wheel you made to this class and learn about the modern pigments you need for an effective color palette, about brands, how to read paint labels and lots of practice color mixing through sighting. You will make lots of charts to use as reference, find out about the particular natures of your paints and more. Many participants repeat this class to gain deeper understanding of how to mix colors by sighting and to learn more about pigments. A material list will be provided when you register.

Landscape on Location for Fall
Fridays, Sept 24th, Oct 1st, 8th and 15th, 10:00 –1:00, Tuition, $45 per class, $155 for all four classes with prepayment
Study and practice painting at a convenient nearby location in the beautiful Fall in WNC. Each class will cover a different topic to help you develop your “field notes” for painting. Value, color, composition, sunny and cloudy day effects, painting water, how to start a painting and more will be covered. We will work in the studio in the event of rain, and create indoor landscapes based on the foundations of composition and color. A materials list will be provided upon registration. This is not just for landscape painters. These lessons benefit artists working in all genres. Oils, acrylics, soft and oil pastels or drawing media are all suitable for these classes.

Painting Basics with Oils and Acrylics
Starts Wed, Oct 13th for six consecutive weeks through Nov 17th, 9:30-12:30, Tuition $200, add $10 per class day if using classroom acrylic paints and supplies.
This class is perfect for beginners and those getting back to painting and needing some refresher in the basics of painting. We will learn about paints, brushes, how to start a painting, use lights and darks, shading and shadows, how to loosen up and some basic color theory. Lots of hands-on and fun with paint. Color Mixing Basics is a recommended prerequisite, but not mandatory. Small class size allows time for personal attention and support. A materials list will be provided when you register.
